Perspective

My view on diaspora entrepreneurship

I have been building digital media projects and training entrepreneurs across the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa since 2011. What I have observed over more than ten years is a profound shift: African diaspora entrepreneurs in Europe — nearly half of whom live in France — are no longer simply sending money back to their home countries. They have become investors, innovators, and drivers of change in their communities, building businesses across two continents at once.

The numbers confirm it: nearly 9 billion dollars in remittances from France to Africa in 2021, according to the World Bank. Many African states have recognized this and are adapting their policies — legislation, dedicated services, sometimes a ministry or parliamentary representatives for citizens abroad.

Yet this path remains lined with real obstacles — psychological, legal, banking, technical — for entrepreneurs and for the institutions meant to support them. Closing that gap between the potential and the real barriers is exactly what Tamkin Formation exists to do.

The African continent is transforming at great speed and on a very large scale. The future isn't in Africa — the present already is.
